SURFACE ROUGHNESS

Hello, I'm new to the CMM community, and these forums are a great source of information, it makes my job a lot easier, so thank you all for being so active on here.
I've been tasked with finding out how to inspect a surface finish on our parts using our CMM's, one is Spectrum RDS VAST XXT, and the other one is O-Inspect 3/2/2 VAST XXT. I was wondering if they're even compatible to check surface roughness. What would be my first step in doing so? Thank you.

Neither is compatible with Surface finish on CMM. For Surface Finish on a CMM you would need a different CMM (Prismo) with has the appropriate hardware to support ROTOS. Outside of CMM work, Zeiss does have a number of Surface finish products such as the HandySurf https://www.zeiss.com/metrology/product ... ysurf.html
or SurfCom https://www.zeiss.com/metrology/product ... amily.html

While the ROTOS is an exquisite piece of hardware, unless you are in production w/ automation 24/7, the cost and effort required to implement typically exceeds the benefit over a separate profilometer.

So this one is still a sore spot for me with Zeiss. In the 2022 release video and release notes, they said a feature being released was "roughness evaluation with any type of sensor" It's listed as feature 219486 in the 2022 release notes. Naturally, I was pretty excited about this. One less step to do, and one less step for operators to miss.

Unfortunately, it was a lie. It doesn't work with the Vast XT I've got on a Micura.
