How does the LSQ evaluation work for plane?

Hi everyone,

I inspect injection molded parts on a daily basis and for new parts also, in order for mold correction I need to give coordinates according to the dimension.

My problem is that in some places , we make points on a flat surface in order to know warpage and then recall them to a plane. But I'm still unclear about how these points are converted in to a plane, i know it uses LSQ evaluation but what calculation goes behind this?
And is there any way that we can simulate or predict the plane generated from any set of points?

Ramesh, LSQ evaluation is for all intents and purposes the average. Outer Tangential & Inner Tangential evaluations are the highest and lowest points respectively. Scan points at high density and use the CAD evaluation to see the plus/minus material condition.

LSQ is method of least squares. The 2 angles of the plane are allowed to rotate and ordinate value is allowed to translate until the least sum of the errors squared is achieved.
