Measuring tool?

Hello Friends!

Total Calypso newbie here so sorry if I'm asking a dumb question.

Does calypso have a measure tool similar to the one in PC_DMIS? Like I'm trying to figure out a retract distance so I don't collide with a boss coming out of a cylinder and I just would like to measure the distance between the boss and the face behind it. I know I could extract the features and do the math manually, but PCDMIS had a really nifty measure function that would let me click two faces and quickly get the distance between them. Anything like that here?

Thanks in advance!

You can create a Cartesian Distance characteristic, then open it and click the two features in question. Calypso measures from the first feature to the second.

I don't actually need to measure both of the features so I hadn't created them, probably no way to do it without creating the features?

It is pretty easy to extract both features and do a distance measurement between them.. how close are these features to one another? I generally just use a little mental math on clearance and retract distances that I don't make standard. If you need help estimating distances, grab a pair of digital calipers and open them up to 0.010", 0.020" etc to get a good eye ball on what each one looks like.

So, yeah, Conner to answer your question... no. Unfortunately, there isn't a nifty tool in Calypso like you described. I know what tool you're referencing. Solidworks has something similar called the tape measure. As others have mentioned, it's fairly simple to extract nominal distances in Calypso, but it's usually done through a distance characteristic. Not quite as point and shooty.

Thanks everyone! I'm forgetting how easy it is to extract features in Calypso...

Definitely going to be a lot to get used to in Calypso (it's so different from PC-DMIS/MODUS/MCOSMOS) but holy crap it looks powerful!!
