Brand new Contura

They are bringing in a new Contura as I type. For those that aren't
aware, Zeiss got rid of all the ceramic, replacing it with aluminum!

I got to work with one during expert training a few months ago. It's cool in that shiny new toy way, but I don't actually know what might be better or worse compared to the 2014 model I have.

We've had a 9/12/8 since last June and it's worked very well for us. The lower table takes some getting used to. It's great if you're sitting.

😱
Can you post detail photos? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to envision this.
We plan to replace our CMMs over the next 2 years, but I don't want a cheap aluminum toy. 🤣

They've been using this foam on Accura models for a while. As long as the accuracy keeps getting better, I'm ok with it. 😃

HA! I don't know what you're talking about. My wife says "it makes me look distinguished". Then, she said "now, we just have to work on you acting distinguished." Yes, that was funny.

Tom, I see that you have both VAST and RDS sensors. Do you use both?

Supposedly, the uncertainty ratio on the new Conturas is lower than all previous models. I'd be interested to see data on how they actually are performing in the field.

The Zeiss tech of course 🤣

I know, being a measurement guy, I shouldn't have to ask this: But how sensitive do you think those materials are?
Let's assume somebody (not me! 😮 ) would drop a wrench or something and it hits the foam or even the aluminum parts. Would it cause permamnent damage?

Zeiss would say that the low density of materials is a feature, not a defect. It's meant to record an exact facsimile of the tool that assailed it.

Is it because of sensitivity to get rid of ceramics and switch to aluminum, or is it because of the ceramic shortage in the market due to the coronavirus?

It is also important how much this feature raises the price.

Shabu,

It looks terrific!

I have to ask, though... what is the hot glue gun in the background for?
