[Ow...]
Haven't had any coffee yet but, can somebody help me understand what the -S is in the secondary box? GD&T -S.png
[DW...]
I think it is a discontinued way to say "Regardless of Feature Size".
[Ch...]
Devin is correct. I'm guessing you have a very old print.
[Ow...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Print was made in 2004. The way I see it is the "S" with a circle around it is for "regardless of feature size" so, why put -S beside it?
[Ch...]
Definitely an unusual one. They already have the circled S for RFS - seems redundant. Unless you have a Datum S on your drawing and they are trying to imply K-S combo datum ?? ❓ 🙄
[DW...]
"Unless you have a Datum S on your drawing and they are trying to imply K-S combo datum ??" Oh I see what Owen was saying in the original post about "-S" instead of the circled S. I concur with this take, but I am sure Owen will chime in to say there is no datum S 🤣
[Ow...]
Please sign in to view this quote. BINGO! Yes, there is a Datum S. It's a qualifying pad for initial machining that has no effect on fit/form & function of the unit in any application so, I'm not sure why they'd do that. [Ow...]
I’d share the whole drawing but, it’s for a “Top Secret” military engine on an undisclosed planet within our galaxy 😮 🤣
[Ch...]
If they put the circled "S" (RFS) after the -S , I would have recognized it much easier, as that how it is commonly called out. Since -S is an unusual datum perhaps "RFS" is not even an option for that datum ... Glad you figured it out ...
[Ri...]
Is no one going to point out the chicken head sketch to the right?
[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. My dear friend, this is no chicken head.
[Ow...]
The chicken head is the way this undisclosed company use to denote certain characteristics as important to fit/form/function, assembly, critical/major/minor, etc. Like some use half-filled, solid-filled, quarter-filled circles, etc. No matter how hard they try, Standardizing GD&T is like getting the whole world to speak the same language, it'll never happen completely. Anywho, much thanks to Chris Rotolo and others helping me get this figured out. Sometimes I'll post a question here not because I can't figure it out but, because I don't have the time to think-about it working on so many things at the same time. This year puts a whole new meaning on multi-tasking as I can now laugh, cough, fart, sneeze and pee all at the same time 🙄
[Ch...]
I've seen a few creative GD&T callouts in my days, but never have I seen the 'chickenhead' ... lol 🤣 Happy holidays !
[Ma...]
I wonder if those are the heads of the legendary chickens whose wing bones wound up making a Y-Axis noisy? 😃
