Insert a stylus via Control Box

RDS XXT
Can you insert a stylus via the control Box?
My system is down, one stylus became corrupt and after trying to store it on the rack, it errored out after storing the stylus and failed to pick up another stylus.
Now it seems the CMM thinks it has the corrupt stylus in the RDS XXT.
I cant even connect to the CMM.

I had a suggestion in this post, but it was bad advice and irresponsible to provide without some big warnings about damaging sensors, etc. See Jeff's post further down the page.

I misunderstood the function. It does drop the physical system, but it doesn't tell the controller or Calypso, so it still thinks it's mounted.

That's a really weird error message and I'm starting to think your machine might be haunted. I assume you've done the done the usual reboot of everything?

I've gone thru the usual three times now.
Best I can tell, the error occurred at 10:53am.
I was able to connect to the CMM (Simulation) by removing all the files (copied to a folder) that had todays date and 10:53am stamp.
11:35am
I am now connecting, but I have to rebuild all of my styli.
easy enough....

This not valid for the XXT sensor. Only XT* variant sensors. The XXT stylus plate is held in by a single permanent magnet and cannot be "dropped" from the sensor as an XT can. Pressing Shift+Lower Return + F2 will release the RDS from the carrier when the RDS is active. FYI - Accidentally doing this can get very expensive as can many other control box "short cuts". There is no 5 second warning period as with a Calypso initiated manual probe change operation. I advise that everyone please avoid control box "short cuts" unless you are 100% aware of their application.

Fair points. I've removed that from my initial post. I didn't know that the RDS would be disconnected like a stylus system, since I'm only thinking in terms of fixed-mount XXTs (Duramax) and my own XTG. Is that common knowledge for people who use RDS setups, or should the manual warnings about stylus systems on that particular page be updated to specify?

Common knowledge for those that use RDS systems. Also, there is a rentention clip that holds the unit on the Carrier on Conturas/Spectrums that do not use interchangeable sensors. Those that use interchangeable sensors are accustomed to this operation as it is how the RDS unit changes the XXT out for a Line/Dot scan sensors.
