The only person I feel bad for is you.

You are clearly a knowledgeable guy, but you are only using your knowledge to act arrogant and put down people who you perceive to be be less intelligent than you. You are burying your talents when you should be using them to help people.

its sad to see

There is some truth to that and I am sorry for that. I have a job because of all the wrong programming out there so maybe I should be happy?
At the same time it is the problem. It is amazing all the problems that company's deal with. I write programs for more then 35 company's because the have had some bad inspectors in the past. Not that inspectors are the only problem I have more problems from engineers. Since I have been a Machinist, Inspector, and Engineer I see it from each view point. But what I was trying to explain is learn something from it. Tom Oakes had a good point that it doesn't change anything for Perpendicularity. But then it just got stuck on that the standard is bogus.

That does nothing for improving the inspection as a whole. And it isn't the point of the standard. It is a tool for interpretation.

How is it Bogus?
Definition - not genuine or true; fake
It doesn't have any effect to the result but definitely legitimate.

Thanks
Danny

Hey Danny, Please review the attached document and tell me if the results would be different. I am saying there is no difference, so to specify a location of where the perpendicularity applies is not necessary, otherwise a waste of ink. That is what we are referring to as bogus.

Shabu, Following the ASME guidelines is only required if it is specified on the drawing. As it was pointed out, the drawing is 25 years old and the engineer designed (hopefully) the part with standards current at the time. In order for the drawing to comply with our current standards, the drawing would need to be "re-engineered" to make sure the new specs produced the same part as the old ones. This would also create a new revision, potentially making the part not compatible with previous assemblies, and in some cases, where a process is "locked down", would require re-qualifications to meet aerospace, medical, automotive, etc. requirements. We, as inspectors, have to be able to recognize the differences and be flexible.

Why are we taking about wasting ink? Who carries about the amount of ink? really?
It can be calculated therefore legitimate. But point taken that it doesn't change the result.
That also doesn't make it bogus.

Ok. We're entitled to our opinion. Right? Maybe meaningless, unnecessary or irrelevant would have been a better choice than bogus?

By the way. I am curious. Where are you located? I know sometimes American slang is not so well understood outside of the US.

Yes ,sometime it's very difficult to understand, but I love American English more than UK English because American English spelling is very simple..

You have a language barrier about every 600 miles where one word means something different.
It’s no wonder we’ve seen two world wars with different understandings of terminology causing all kinds of misunderstandings…

That said, my opinion on this topic is ……everything is relative but, nothing is absolute 🤣

Wow, I've just been sitting back and reading the responses. This is all good stuff for somebody who's GD&T knowledge isn't even close to where I want it to be yet. I just wanted to thank everybody for their contributions and talking some of the issues out.
