[Me...]
Does anyone have a solution or workaround for this issue? I'm in need of one for a tight tolerance part we have.

[Ja...]
The fourth to last slide states that very few CMM software packages can actually perform datum shift. Calypso is one that cannot. Others will disagree. Zeiss has stated that it cannot except for in the case of coaxial features. You can do a "Best Fit of Bore Pattern", but you cannot do regular old Datum shift in all applications that you may find it.
[Ja...]
Please sign in to view this quote. For future reference. I have a cylinder along Z and a cylinder along Y. Position of one to the other with datum shift. My parts are failing for rotational purposes. I started questioning how the cylinder could be rotated through it's MMB in an attempt to alleviate some of the angular error. I came up with the maximum allowable angle of rotation and typed up a very brief snippet on it. Maybe you can manually use these calculations to help at some point. Maybe it'll get you on the path of thinking/developing your own procedure for your specific case.
[Me...]
Did you use the 3D 'real' graphics rendering in solidworks for that model? It's mighty purdy.
